REPRONIG Signs Bilateral Agreements with Four (4) RROs

The Reproduction Rights Society of Nigeria (REPRONIG) has signed Type B Bilateral Agreements with four (4) other Reproduction Rights Organisations: CopyGhana (Ghana), KOPIKEN (Kenya), URRO (Uganda); and ZARRSO (Zambia). The signings were on 11 July, 2018 during the meeting of the IFRRO African Development Committee meeting held in Lusaka, Zambia and witnessed by the CEO of IFRRO Ms. Caroline Morgan and Chief Executives of African RROs that were in attendance.
REPRONIG also used the opportunity of the Lusaka meeting to discuss areas of future collaboration with other RROs. Speaking after the signing, the Executive Director of REPRONIG, Mr. John Asein, reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian RRO to its core values of premium service, accountability, good governance and efficiency. Reporting earlier on the progress made so far in rebuilding REPRONIG, Asein expressed optimism that with 164 Universities and over 286 other tertiary institutions, reprographic rights management in Nigeria should offer tremendous benefits to authors and publishers. He expressed hope that the new bilateral agreements will enhance REPRONIG’s on-going licensing efforts in the country.
With support from the Norwegian Copyright Development Association (NORCODE), WIPO, IFRRO and the Nigerian Copyright Commission, REPRONIG in 2017, embarked on a series of reforms and has achieved significant progress in negotiating a standard licence agreement with the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities.
