The Nigerian Government, through the Nigerian Copyright Commission has renewed the approval for the Reproduction Rights Society of Nigeria (REPRONIG) to operate as a collective management organisation for literary works. The renewal is with effect from December 12, 2017 and is for a period of 2 years as provided for under the Copyright Act and the relevant Regulations.
By the Copyright (Collective Management) Regulations, 2007, every CMO is required to have its operational licence renewed every two years upon satisfying the Commission about its conduct.
Reacting to the news, the Executive Director, Mr. John Asein, remarked that the renewal of REPRONIG’s operational licence is an affirmation of the steady progress that the organization has made in the last few months. Coming on the heels of the recent Conference on Quality Education, he gave the assurance that the organisation will strive harder to ensure that authors and publishers begin to reap the dividends of collective management as from 2018.
